About the Seminar
Sustainability issues present one of the most pressing challenges facing society. Energy consumption, climate change, and ecological biodiversity highlight just a few of the many areas where humans are living unsustainably. As researchers across many different fields work to develop sustainable alternatives to current technologies, a common theme that emerges is the importance of computational techniques. Computation gives us a profoundly new tool for analyzing large-scale energy consumption, controlling distributed systems, developing new chemical processes, and solving large resource allocation problems, to name just a few of the applications.
The goal of this seminar series is to bring together researchers from a variety of different areas to present application areas in sustainability that highlight the crucial role of computational techniques. The series will consists of six invited talks from top researchers at MIT and other institutions.
